YOU GOT THEM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?
Soooooo. Everyone that’s planning a wedding and looking to hire their photographer has about the same questions, so on this page (once you scroll a little), I’m answering all of my most Frequently Asked Questions! What’d you do right after you got engaged? You googled “how do I plan a wedding” and I’m willing to be that led you to an article about “questions you should ask a potential wedding photographer”! We could totalllyyyyy meet up in person for 45 minutes and I could answer every question (and I still will even after you read this!) but I thought I could save some time and brain power by making a dope FAQ page where I specifically answer questions those blogs tell you to ask. Let’s do this!
What is your style?
I shoot and edit in a very true-to-life kind of way, where I want the pictures to look and feel very similar to the actual moment - just enhanced a little bit! I'm very inspired by film photographers and techniques and love to sometimes let that influence my work as I think film just evokes a very natural and authentic feeling! The best way to judge this though is to go look at my portfolio and see if you like my shooting style and editing!
How many weddings have you shot, and have you shot ones similar to mine?
By the end of 2020 I'll have photographed over 115 weddings, and I'm ramping the number I shoot per year up actually from around 15-20 to 35-40! I've done a huge range of kinds of weddings. Barn weddings, park weddings, beach weddings, Jewish weddings, Asian weddings, Macedonian weddings. There's pretty much nothing you could throw at me that would freak me out or catch me off guard!
What happens if you get sick on my wedding day?
I'm going to fight to take care of you! I've only missed three weddings ever, all for medical reasons. One was when my wife and I both came down with Covid-19 the day before we were supposed to fly out for their Richmond, VA wedding. As sick as we were, my first priority was finding a replacement for us to make sure the couple didn't miss out! Within 5 hours of having to make the call to replace ourselves we had found two replacement photographers to go in our place, and had paid them and everything! I still edited the photos so they looked like my photos, and we gifted the couple a photo box and any time they're in our area we'll gift them a session - just to apologize for the switch-up!
Another time was 2 days after I had surgery to remove my gallbladder and I was also stuck home because of that. I sent Madison and hired another photographer to go with her so that the couple felt like they came out ahead instead of behind or even equal!
Will you be the one shooting my wedding?
Yes! Unless we talk specifically about having an associate photographer shoot your wedding, it will be me and/or Madison shooting your wedding! We'll never switch out on you without talking to you ahead of time and making sure it works with you and your wedding!
How would you describe your working style? Do you prefer to blend into the background to capture candid moments, or do you like to be more visible and take charge to choreograph images?
I'm somewhere between the two! I like to get in on the action and get up close when I think the moment calls for it, but I'm also trying to read the room and see if I would better serve my couple by taking a step back! I would say I get *mostly* candids, but I also have no problem being open and honest and saying "ooooh high five again, I missed it!!" if I need to. Obviously things like family photos are always going to be kinda posed, and in those times I'm a very strong leader than can handle large groups really well. Even if they've been partying for a while!
How long after the wedding will we receive the images? How will they be delivered?
Contractually, they'll be to you in no more than a month (30 days) after your wedding date! But in general I return photos sooooo much faster than that. I'd *like* to have them to you that next week (especially since I likely have another wedding the next weekend and I don't want my queue to be huge). But if things get crazy, up to 1 month (30 days)!
I deliver all the high-res edited photos via a service called Pass, which will send you an email link to your online gallery! From there you can download all of your photos, mark your favorites, share to FB, and get a link to send out to your friends and family. You can also buy prints though Pass! I do get a small kickback from that, but it's just enough to cover me having that as an option for you. I want you to get the best quality for as cheap as possible and that's how you'd do it! How much of a deposit do you require? When is it due? Do you accept payments in installations?
What is your refund or cancellation policy?
Generally $500, due upon booking! For smaller packages and sooner weddings we might change that on a case per case basis. Payments can be made whenever you'd like, as long as you're all paid off 2 weeks before your wedding! At any point if you cancel (for any reason) any payments made up to that time are non-refundable, but can be transferred or used as credit towards another type of session or service I offer! If for any reason I cancel (I've never done this), anything paid up to that point will be fully refunded, and I'll go to extreme lengths to replace myself for you guys, as well as gifting you some sort of session to say sorry!
Do you carry backup equipment? What is the backup plan if you are unable to shoot my wedding for an unexpected reason?
Yes, I have multiple camera bodies and lenses at all times in case one fails. If something unexpected happens (like the time I had to have my gallbladder removed like 3 days before a wedding), I'll either send Madison (my wife, an epic wedding photographer) and hire a second shooter to go with her (not because she can't handle it but so you feel extra taken care of), or hire 2 other photographers I really trust to go cover for me. I'll still edit the photos no matter what, so they'll still have the ZG feel! Also, I'll gift you some sort of session (anniversary, maternity, family, etc) to say sorry for the change!
How will you and your assistants/second shooters be dressed?
In general, we want to match the dress code of the event. Please give us a heads-up if you've instructed your guests with a specific dress code! If we don't hear anything about it, we'll do our best to feel out the vibe of you guys and what we know about the wedding and dress accordingly. We're super down to show up looking mega fancy with a suit and Gucci belt and so on, but for some couples we expect that to be overkill and would cause us to actually be a distraction at their wedding. The least we'll dress up is usually black pants and a low-key short-sleeve button down for us men, and black pants and a simple shirt or blouse for ladies!
